PostSubject: Oda Clan    Tue May 31, 2016 10:03 pm

Name: Oda
Founder:Oda Akio
Leader: No Current Leader
Settlement(s): No Current Settlement
Clan Rules:

  • The members of the Oda Clan are not Ninja, but instead are Shaman.

Allies: None
Enemies: None
About: Years stretch thinner than the Oda. The small family has lived for generations, generally only producing one child offspring for the few millenniums of existence. Rather than providing ninja arts, the family possesses the trade of witch craft. Witch doctors, priests, demons. The clan has many labels, but choose to identify themselves as Shaman. A Shaman is one who communicates with the dead. This can be for utility purposes, such as information retrieval or even combat application. Generally, it is the job of the Shaman to help evil spirits continue into the afterlife by redeeming them. Occasionally the family would come upon a soul that seemed irredeemable and would be forced to send them to hell. This is rare, but more frequent as the world continues to age. It is unknown exactly how the family have gained their abilities, but it's said that they come from the Nagareboshi, the massive rock the Fallen Temple was formed around. Oda have prayed around the rock for more years that time can count. Through the years, the shaman have periodically died at a young age. The shaman are no exception to death. The most recent Oda to be born were formed in a pair, just as a certain prophecy foretells. The lore speaks of Gold and Silver twins that would bring the death and recreation of the world.
Characteristics: Members of the Oda clan generally have dark hair and eyes, somewhat resembling the Uchiha.

KKG: Jujutsu
KKG Description: Shaman have a unique application of chakra known as Jujutsu which allow them to hone the undead. This can include corporeal and ethereal versions of the deceased. Those without the Oda lineage will generally be unable to witness ethereal versions of the dead, however; those high in spirit may be taught how to do so. The clan uses these undead for a multitude of purposes, covered in different Jujutsu themselves. They include: possession, reanimation, exorcism, haunting and curses as well as a multitude of other tools. The specifics of the abilities are generally unique to the character and spirit, but at the barebones, most of the techniques will be based off of a select few.

The members of the Oda clan are unable to make summoning contracts due to being unable to tie with living creatures. Instead of having a summoning contract, the members create spirits in place of summons. Spirits act as powerful versions of the undead in which the character is able to bring with them wherever they choose. When in use but dormant, the spirit resembles a small ball with facial similarities to that of the person the spirit once was. When not in use, the spirit does not appear until summoned. It is important to know that only one spirit may be in use at a time without special exception. If another is summoned, it will replace the previous. All spirits must be someone who has died, obviously. All spirits must also be willing. This means that a ghost that is unwilling to be a spirit cannot become one. Only members of the Oda Clan can see or witness spirits and/or ghosts. Those high in soul can be trained to see the spirits so long as the trainer sees them as a good person. Spirits cannot affect the physical world unless channeled through the shaman. Generally a shaman will only be able to focus specific parts of a spirit into the world. These oftentimes include weapons, armor or techniques of the spirit. Powerful enough shaman will be able to bring the person entirely back into the world.

Creating a spirit must be in the following template:

Code:

[b]Name:[/b]
[b]Rank:[/b]
[b]Appearance:[/b]
[b]Personality:[/b]
[b]Stats:[/b]
[b]Techniques:[/b]

Spirits level separately from their shaman. Each time a spirit is active while the shaman gains exp, the spirit gains 1/2 of the same amount. When gaining EXP out of character, the last spirit used in character will be the one to gain the 1/2 amount. Spirits still pay full price for techniques, but ranking up costs them 1/2 of what it would cost a shinobi. They receive the same stat allotments a regular character would.

I'm a bit nervous about this clan... it seems... a bit meta-gamy and a bit second character. I like the idea, I dislike the motion of the ocean you know. I'd like to put out some guidelines then ask some questions.

For starters, this EXP deal, so we allow multiple spirits, multiple sets of stats (potentially maxing out every skill) and multiple chakra pools and benefits. You're giving up summons... for summon 2.0, I also see a lot of... loopholes let call them. So, for starters, bonus EXP (from say this Jutsu event, staff give away) are only given once, so if your character wants it, they get it, if you want the spirit to have it, the spirit gets it. Second, I'm very nervous about the chakra pool situation, multiple spirits maxing out the chakra stat gives potentially a huge boost to chakra. Third, spirits give 1/2 basically every time the character does get exp, paying full price for techniques... but half for ranking up... seems a little counter productive. I see two options, either for 1/2 ranking up, they get 1/2 the skill points, or they pay full price for full skill points. Also, I'll add, no trading/gifting EXP between host and spirit.

Now for some questions

1. How will switching the spirits work?
2. How does the chakra situation work, does your spirit have separate chakra from you? Do you combine both pools?
3. Do all spirits start at D rank?
4. Do you think spirits should get potentially less starting stats than a full blown character?
5. If spirits have chakra, does that mean things like Sharingan, Byakugan and sensory can see or "sense" them?
6. Does it cost chakra to utilize them? Whats the cost per rank of the spirit?
7. How do we curb the idea that you are potentially walking around with an invisible battery?
8. This part
Shaman Queen wrote:

, I'm hoping this means that any jutsu cast comes from the user, not the invisible man behind you?
9. How far away can the spirit travel from you and how far away must it be so you can utilize jutsu/techniques? (Basically, if it can move up to 20 meters from you, that's like a free awareness stat)
10. Does the spirit give extra-perception awareness? (Potentially 2 sets of eyes, feeding you information, for free, giving you a boost to awareness etc etc)

1. You switch spirits upon Summoning another. Having a spirit around isn't exactly like utilizing it. They remain dormant in a small ball shape that has no combat capabilities whatsoever until the user performs a technique to use their powers. Switching spirits would just mean using a technique to bring out the abilities of another spirit instead.
2. They do, but still require investments into the chakra stat in order to use them. And still, they cannot affect the physical world unless through the shaman.
3. Yes
4. No, because they used to be people. While it does put them at an advantage over normal summons, it is a KKG so it should put me to some advantage over people who don't have it. Anyone can have a summon with another KKG, so instead this is my kkg and I ruled out all possibility of having any other summons to reduce the toolbox and make up for a slightly more powerful application of the idea. It also requires an ample amount of experience to level up a spirit much less multiple spirits.
5. Sure. That's a good balance.
6. Yes. Any utility of a spirit will be in the form of a technique that costs chakra. The cost per rank isn't so much a thing as opposed to how they're being used.
7. Can write in that they cannot transfer chakra to the host
8. Yes. They're like ghosts. Even if they made a fireball it wouldn't do any harm to the real world.
9. Most techniques will require the user to merge with the spirit in some way to utilize techniques, so very close. But yes, the spirit can scout away from the user, leaving them vulnerable.
10. Yes, they can watch over your shoulder when not in use. If merged, you'd only have one set though

You make good points. I'm fine with that chakra transferring, but have two smaller concerns.

1. When they are dormant, do they gain exp or do they have to be active?

2. I think having one spirit out at a time is fine, but when switching them I'd like their to be a chakra cost the user needs to pay, kinda like summoning a creature, an initial switch cost. Thoughts?

Oh just one more, this is a KKG correct? Not a Hidan?

1. The last one to be active gains the EXP.

2. And I agree completely

Yea its a KKG. Can teach others to see spirits but not use em

Can you make the following changes, as I think its fair enough.

  • So, for starters, bonus EXP (from say this Jutsu event, staff give away) are only given once, so if your character wants it, they get it, if you want the spirit to have it, the spirit gets it.
  • things like Sharingan, Byakugan and sensory can see or "sense" them?
  • when switching them I'd like their to be a chakra cost the user needs to pay, kinda like summoning a creature, an initial switch cost.
  • When a spirit isn't active, but is dormant, and the player gains EXP, the spirit does not gain exp. Basically al la summon style, if the summon isn't out/doing things, the summon doesn't get exp.

Is that acceptable?

Yes to all but the final one. While I agree with it, what if I use multiple spirits in the course of a battle? Do I divide it evenly or can I allocate it how I like?
